Understand the Challenges in Implementing EHS Laws at OSH India 2018

To spread awareness on Occupational Safety & Health, UBM India organises the largest OSH exhibition cum conference in South Asia, called OSH India, annually in Mumbai. The 7th edition is going to be held at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon from 29th-30th November, 2018. The number of security incidents reported by industries makes one look at the implementation of OSH related laws with caution. In order to address these challenges it becomes imperative on the safety management to carry out regular safety audits and ensure that all measures for worker safety are adhered to without any compromise. In addition, the review of safety procedures, safety performance monitoring besides labour training on safe practices should be important constituents of company policy.

Ensuring that workplaces are safe is a huge responsibility for employers, particularly in hazardous industries. However, by putting simple checks and procedures in place, even the most problematic environments can be monitored safely.

All organisations are legally obliged to conduct regular health and safety risk assessments to identify any occupational hazards that might be present in the workplace and take steps to alleviate them. In this regard, they need to regularly undertake safety audits and plug loopholes that could be found as a result. The Pharma industry deals with a lot of active chemical ingredients and therefore requires the utmost attention as far as worker safety and health is concerned. Most workers in India work with the deficient protective equipment and also do not take adequate precautions to safeguard their health.

UBM India has been organising OSH India, South Asia's largest safety & health expo and conference in Mumbai since 2012. The exhibition brings together more than 6000 national and international key industry professionals across construction, manufacturing, PPE and other key industry domains. The 2017 edition saw over 140 brands offering exclusive deals on more than 10,000 products across safety & health, ergonomics, material handling and service management including work wear, evacuation systems, gas detection, behavioural safety services and more.

It is imperative on the organisation to carry out regular safety audits and ensure that all measures for worker safety are adhered to without any compromise. In addition, the review of safety procedures, safety performance monitoring besides labour training on safe practices should be important constituents of company policy.

OSH India provides a unique platform for safety professionals to network with industry stalwarts and gain knowledge on the latest developments in the space of Occupational Safety & Health. Over the last decade OSH India has received a tremendous response from industry professionals in India and has shown remarkable growth.

Some of the key associations supporting OSH India include DISH, Gujarat Safety Council, International Powered Access Federation, Green Triangle Society, Indian Technical Textile Association, Aerial Platform Association of India.
