The National Safety Day 2020 event, a national conference and expo (confex) was held at St. John`s Auditorium, Koramangala, Bengaluru on 4th March 2020. Aimed at shaping the future of Occupational Health and Safety, the event, which is a first of its kind in Bengaluru, was organised by the Department of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety & Health, Govt. of Karnataka through the Karnataka State Safety Institute in association with OSH South India, South Asia’s largest trade show in the Occupational Safety and Health industry annually organised by Informa Markets in India.

The Department of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health is a regulatory department enforcing the provisions of the labour laws to ensure safe and healthy working environment to the workforce in the factories as well as their overall welfare. The department believes in achieving its objectives by creating awareness amongst the stakeholders and imparting training to the workers and the public at large in this regard. The Department conducts awareness programs and organizes special training programs, workshops and symposiums with all vigor and passion in its endeavor to achieve its objectives.

The Karnataka State Safety Institute of the Department of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety & Health, Govt. of Karnataka is registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960 and has been working in the field of industrial safety & health, creating awareness on the issues of safety, health and work environment, through training programs, workshop and seminars. It conducts training programmes in different modules on need basis to shop floor, supervisory and management level personnel in the factory premises itself. Workshop/Seminars are also conducted for the senior officers of the management on the subjects safety, health and personal development etc., Safety, Welfare, Personnel and Medical Officers who are supposed to safeguard the interest workers working in the factories are also trained through this institute on their roles and responsibilities. Safety in industrial activity has drawn utmost attention in maintaining certain safety standards which are not detrimental or injurious to the industrial community. The dissemination of information and knowledge in the field of safety and working environment through effective communication and education is considered as one of the most effective tools in rejuvenating the minds of working personnel. The objective is to propagate the benefits and importance of safety and health and inculcate the safe work procedures for incident free production activity. The Institute also conducts specialized programs, workshops and symposiums independently and in association with recognized bodies like CII, NDMA and leading industrial associations at the state level and at the national level on regular basis for the benefit of all the stakeholders.
