ITTA Extends Support to OSH India 2018 Under Strategic Partnership

We are proud to announce the support of Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA) to OSH India 2018 to be held from 29th - 30th November at Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. UBM India has been organising OSH India, South Asia's largest safety & health expo and conference in Mumbai since 2012. The exhibition brings together more than 6,000 national and international key industry professionals across construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, utilities, mining and other industry verticals. The 2017 edition saw over 140 brands offering exclusive deals on more than 10,000 products across safety & health, ergonomics, material handling and service management including work wear, evacuation systems, gas detection, behavioral safety services and more.

This year the industry will witness a dedicated conference on technical textiles jointly organized by ITTA & OSH India.

The Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA) is the only association of the technical textile industry in the country. Formation of ITTA was facilitated by office of the textile commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. ITTA membership represents the entire technical textile value chain from raw material to finished goods producers, machinery manufacturers, converters, centers of excellence and R&D institutes. At present ITTA has over 300 members. The objective of the ITTA is to promote, support, develop and increase production & export of technical textile to make India a power house of technical textiles in the days to come.

ITTA is registered under section 25 of the companies act (1956) in the year 2010. In the short span of over five years of its existence, ITTA has undertaken a number of activities like organizing seminars, exhibitions both domestic and overseas, supporting govt. schemes, organizing workshops, taking up the issues of technical textile units with Govt. agencies. ITTA is also a member of various committees constituted by Ministry of Textiles and office of the Textile Commissioner and provides inputs for policy formulations and other issues for the growth of the industry.

Given the fact that government policy have played a critical role in the advancement of technical textiles, ITTA is maintaining a close interaction with government of India in formulation of various policies focusing on removing the ambiguities in the system which are hampering the growth of the sector, helping bring in legislation which will help spur usage in India and recommending fiscal and non fiscal norms which would aid the industry to achieve its true potential. ITTA is dedicated to members success and aims to become the premier organization that represents and sets the tone for public policy for the Indian technical textiles industry by becoming ‘ITS SINGULAR VOICE’ and bringing together all the stakeholders of the sector under one roof.

Technical textiles are defined as textile materials and products used primarily for their technical performance and functional properties rather than their aesthetic or decorative characteristics. Other terms used for defining technical textiles include industrial textiles, functional textiles, performance textiles, engineering textiles, invisible textiles and hi-tech textiles. Technical textiles are used individually or as a component/part of another product. Technical textiles are used individually to satisfy specific functions such as fire retardant fabric for uniforms of firemen and coated fabric to be used as awnings. As a component or part of another product, they are used to enhance the strength, performance or other functional properties of that product. Technical textiles have been slowly but steadily gaining ground due to one or more of the reasons such as: functional requirement, health & safety; cost effectiveness; durability; high strength; light weight; versatility; customization; user friendliness; eco friendliness; logistical convenience etc. Unlike conventional textiles used traditionally for clothing or furnishing, technical textiles are used basically on account of their specific physical and functional properties and mostly by other user industries. Depending on the product characteristics, functional requirements and end-use applications the highly diversified range of technical textile are grouped into 12 segments.

ITTA regularly engage the central and state governments on issues of relevance to the industry. Members may raise issues with ITTA that have industry wide impact.

It solicites members’ participation in various forums/sub groups of ITTA on subjects such as Technology, Exports, Domestic Market, Government Policies, Quality, standardization etc. and formulate recommendation to competent authority for the growth of all segments of technical textiles.

ITTA’s value added services to its members, facilitate business and trade in technical textiles and create an ecosystem that promotes growth and profitability of the industry. This is being achieved through following activities-

  • Dissemination of government policies and schemes.
  • Sharing of product innovation, international and national news through a monthly E-bulletin
  • Knowledge dissemination to producers and users of technical textiles through conference, symposium and workshop
  • Providing platforms to members to showcase their strengths to the outside world.
